Choosing earplugs: Disposable or reusable earplugs?
If you did a little research yourself before landing here, you know that there are several different earplugs on the market. It is only good because it gives you many options when you have to choose the right earplugs for you; but perhaps you have difficulty figuring out which ones are best for your needs?
So let's get an overview of which ones are available on the market.
Basically, there are two types of earplugs:
• Disposable earplugs
• Reusable earplugs
Both can basically be used several times. The difference, however, is that the reusable earplugs are manufactured in a material that can be washed when they get dirty; for example silicone. When earplugs have become dirty (and cannot be washed) or are broken, they should be replaced.
Another difference is that disposable earplugs are often made of a softer material, and therefore may feel more comfortable for some. They can therefore be a good choice if you are looking for earplugs to sleep with.
With cord, hoop or traceable: Which earplugs are best for you?
Under the two overall categories there are a number of variations that you can choose from as needed:
• Earplugs with hoop
• Earplugs with string
• Trackable earplugs
Whether you prefer a brace or a cord - or without it at all - is a matter of taste. Here at the Security giant, we have both.
Trackable earplugs are an advantage if you work in an industry where it may be necessary to track down a pair of lost earplugs. In that case, a couple who e.g. contains iron powder found using a metal detector; even if the earplugs are broken into small pieces.
Concertgoer or sleeper? Choose the right earplugs for your needs
We have now reviewed the various earplugs, and we hope that you have gained a good overview of your options. But you may still be thinking: Which earplugs are best for my needs?
It can be difficult to choose when the selection is large. However, the large selection on the market is there to give you the opportunity to choose a pair of earplugs that suit you – and not to confuse. Because in reality, it's mostly about what suits your taste.
If you prefer the somewhat softer material from the disposable earplugs, then these are the ones you choose. Or maybe you love going to loud concerts. Then you may be more attracted to the idea of a pair of earplugs that you can keep in a box in your bag and use over and over again. Here are some great silicone earplugs perfect for you.
That said, it is important to choose a pair of earplugs that protect you optimally. And here it is important to take into account the noise level to which you are exposed. Fortunately, it is possible to calculate.
The best earplugs protect your ears
Your ears do not benefit from being exposed to a noise level of more than 75-80 dB for a long time. We have created a guide on how to calculate whether you have found the right earplug for your needs.
First, you need to know how much noise your new earplugs will protect you from. You can measure which dB you are in using your phone. There are several apps for this purpose.
You must hold that number up against the earplug's SNR value. The value is always indicated under the individual earplug.
Here you see an example of a calculation:
Noise level in dB: 104 dB
The earplug's SNR value: - 26 dB
Noise to which the ear is exposed: = 78 dB
The most optimal SNR value for a noise level of 104 dB is therefore 24-29 dB.
